"It was 1979 . . . I wanted to run the Honolulu marathon (26.2 miles) . . . the running boom had taken off, and if I wanted to run a marathon, I needed to lose 30 pounds. So, I joined the oldest weight loss organization in North America and made it happen.
"I finished the race but swore I would never run another. However, I saw that taking these dedicated steps in my life, changed my life journey. I realized that pure desire wasn’t enough."

About Fran:
With a bachelor's degree in sociology, speech, and theatre and a minor in psychology from Calumet College of St. Joseph's in Whiting, Indiana, as well as a master's degree in counseling psychology, Fran has been a social worker and counselor at most of the U.S. Air Force bases at which her husband was stationed.
Fran joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) in 1979 to lose 30 pounds in order to run the Honolulu Marathon (26.2 miles). So happy not to carry that 30 pounds on my heart anymore, she has been a TOPS ambassador for seven years. Fran has a daughter who is a nurse and two grandsons in college.
